Curator's Platform
Do you have a great idea for an exhibition?
Galatea Fine Art is an artist-run cooperative gallery in the heart of the SOWA Art & Design district, located at 460 Harrison Avenue in Boston. It includes three exhibition spaces plus an area for rotating members’ artwork. The Curator’s Platform is in the third Gallery space (see diagram below). We are open to innovative and experimental proposals and will review them on an ongoing basis.
GUIDELINES
The curator will select a group of artists and be responsible for submitting the proposal, organizing the exhibition, and managing all contractual activities with Galatea. Curators who are also artists may include their work, but it cannot be the show’s main focus. The Curator’s Platform concept is not designed for solo exhibitions. Arts organizations and associations are welcome to apply.
SALES AND FEES
A $700 hosting fee must be paid to Galatea at least 30 days before the exhibition. Galatea Fine Art receives a 30% commission on the purchase price of any work sold. There is no fee to apply. Members and staff of Galatea will host the exhibition along with concurrent exhibitions at the gallery throughout the course of the exhibition, and will process sales on behalf of the curator. The curator and participating artists are welcome to be present at the gallery during any portion of the exhibition. The First Friday reception will include the opening of the Curator’s Platform exhibition and the curator is welcome to host additional receptions and events at the gallery to promote the exhibition with appropriate notice to Galatea.
IMAGE SUBMISSION
A maximum of 25 images per proposal. Please label images with the Curators name, then the artist’s last name and image number to correspond with the image list (example: Curator_Artist_1). Images must be no larger than 1024 x 600 pixels at 72 dpi.
For more details, see the sample contract below.
