March 2018
WOMEN’S CAUCUS FOR ART, BOSTON
ECHOES, Opening Reception: Friday, March 2, 6-8 pm
Echoes celebrates the renewal of the Boston chapter of the Women's Caucus for Art with work illustrating the resonance and richness that echoes can reveal in our changing lives. Although this theme is especially relevant now with the resurgence of feminist activism—the so-called "third wave"—it also transcends one particular issue, resounding in many aspects of our lives.
The common theme running throughout the works is that of echoes in all its manifestations—politics, personal lives, history, art, etc. Our goal for viewers, and ourselves, is to recognize and examine the echoes that surround and inform us.
The Women’s Caucus for Art was founded in 1972 with a mission to create community through art, education, and social activism. For many years the Boston Chapter was one of the largest and most active in the country, but the chapter went dormant for several years in the new century. In Echoes, the new WCA Boston is reconnecting with its past and supporting not only women artists, but all women.
