GALATEA FINE ART is a large contemporary cooperative art gallery located in the heart of Boston's SOWA neighborhood in the South End. SOWA is the most sought-after art community in Boston, and is a lively and supportive group of galleries and studios. Our members include a wide variety of painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media artists and are both established and emerging. We have been reviewed in ArtScope Magazine, Art New England, the Boston Globe, The Improper Bostonian, Boston Magazine, and more.
As an artists’ cooperative, we are mobilizing the diverse energies and skills of our member artists to deepen and expand our marketing and promotion strategies and to enrich our exhibitions program. As we share the critical role of gallery sitting, we are in fact the ones who show and sell each others’ artworks, and that mutual commitment to support each others’ artistic paths is at the heart of the coop.
STRUCTURE AND INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS:
Gallery assists members in printing exhibition cards and preparing press release; gallery circulates press release and publishes listings and display ads in art magazines. The new Director of the gallery will lead the effort to expand media outreach, sales to institutional collectors, participation in art fairs, and other marketing initiatives. The gallery provides a light amount of refreshments for the First Friday opening reception; however exhibiting members may also arrange their own.
All members will be required to gallery sit approximately once every 10 weeks. All members will also participate in one of our committees: Exhibitions, Marketing, Membership, Finance, Website, Facilities and Special Events.
General Membership: Includes one solo exhibition every two years in either Gallery I or Gallery II (our large galleries). Exhibition runs for approximately one month.
