GALATEA FINE ART is a large contemporary, non-profit cooperative art gallery located in the heart of Boston’s SoWa neighborhood in the South End. SoWa is the most sought-after art community in Boston and is a lively and supportive group of galleries and studios. Our members include a wide variety of painters, sculptors, photographers, and mixed media artists and are both established and emerging. We have been reviewed in ArtScope, Art New England, the Boston Globe, The Improper Bostonian, Boston Magazine, and more.
As an artists’ cooperative, we are mobilizing the diverse energies and skills of our member artists to deepen and expand our marketing and promotion strategies and to enrich our exhibitions program. As we share the critical role of gallery sitting, we are in fact the ones who show and sell each others’ artworks, and that mutual commitment to support each others’ artistic paths is at the heart of the co-op.
STRUCTURE AND INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS:
There is assistance in printing exhibition cards and preparing press releases. The gallery circulates press releases and publishes listings in art magazines. The Director of the gallery will lead the effort to expand media outreach and other marketing initiatives. The gallery facilitates serving light refreshments that exhibiting members supply for the First Friday opening receptions.
All members will be required to gallery sit approximately every two months at a minimum during the two-year contract period except for Remote memberships. All members will also participate in at least one committee: Exhibitions, Facilities, Finance, Marketing, Membership, Mentorship, Special Events and Website.
General Membership: Includes one solo exhibition every two years in either Gallery I or Gallery II (our large galleries).
