Becoming a Member
GALATEA FINE ART is a large, contemporary, non-profit, cooperative art gallery located in the heart of Boston’s SoWa neighborhood in the South End. SoWa is the most sought-after art community in Boston and is a lively and supportive group of galleries and studios. Our members include a wide variety of painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists and are both established and emerging. We have been reviewed in ArtScope, Art New England, The Boston Globe, The Improper Bostonian, Boston Magazine and more.
As an artists’ cooperative, we are mobilizing the diverse energies and skills of our member artists to deepen and expand our marketing and promotion strategies and to enrich our exhibitions program. As we share the critical role of gallery sitting, we are,, in fact the ones who show and sell each others’ artworks. That mutual commitment to support each others’ artistic paths is at the heart of the co-op. As members, we share in the camaraderie and meaningful connections of working together with other artists.
STRUCTURE AND INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS:
All members must commit to a two-year contract and will be required to gallery sit six times per year during the two-year contract period except for Remote memberships. All members will also participate in at least one committee: Board of Directors, Exhibitions, Facilities, Finance, Galatea Exchange, Hospitality, Marketing, Membership, Mentorship, and Website.
General Membership: Includes one solo exhibition every two years in either Gallery I or Gallery II (our large galleries).
Affiliate Membership: Includes one solo exhibition every two years in Gallery III (our smaller gallery).
Shared Membership: Artists may share a General or Affiliate membership.

- All members participate in our annual Members’ Exhibition.
- All members show in the members’ Alcove Gallery on a rotating basis.
- All membership categories include representation in artist profiles with images on the website and vote at co-op meetings.
- All membership categories include assistance with hanging. There is no additional hanging fee.
- All membership categories include representation on Artsy.net, the world’s largest online art marketplace.

- General Remote membership: $205.00/month (excludes gallery sitting and committee work)
- Remote members are encouraged to do committee work to bolster social and professional connections
Affiliate Membership: Includes one solo exhibition every two years in Gallery III (our smaller gallery).
- Exhibition runs for approximately one month.
- Includes rotation in the members’ Alcove Gallery for one month on a regular basis.
- Affiliate membership: $115.00/month
- Affiliate Remote membership: $145.00/month (excludes gallery sitting only)
- Remote members are encouraged to do committee work to bolster social and professional connections
Shared Membership: Artists may share a General or Affiliate membership.
- Artists would share the gallery space for an exhibition.
- Artists must find another member artist for a Shared Membership.
- Exhibition runs for approximately one month.
- Includes rotation in the members’ Alcove Gallery for one month on a regular basis
- Shared General: $85/month; Remote fee, $50/month
- Shared Affiliate: $65/month; Remote fee, $30/month
- Remote members are encouraged to do committee work to bolster social and professional connections
