Sherry Autor
Artist Statement:
Nature, beautiful, powerful, yet fragile and vulnerable, is the inspiration for my art.
My work is intuitive, abstract, and process oriented. A painting and I are in continuing dialog during its creation.
Memory, emotion, and experience in nature, animate my brush. I ask a painting what it needs and it answers.
Shapes, marks, colors, and textures tell a story. Rhythm and movement, light and space emerge through multiple layers as the painting evolves.
I listen to visual and non-visual voices and summon the imagined and the unseen into the unfolding process.
Artist Bio:
Sherry was a voice major in High School and a clinical psychologist since college and graduate school. Her painting education and her art developed slowly because she believed that, without restraints on time and classes, art would take over her life. And eventually, her passion for art and art-making did just that. In pursuit of her love for Nature and the Natural World, she traveled to the Rainforest, and the Amazon, the Arctic, Oceans, Deserts, National Parks, and Wildlife sanctuaries. The magnificence, power, and fragility of the Natural World continually inspire and inform her art.
