James Cole
Artist Statement:
I love art of the Victorian era, particularly the academic painters of 19th century France. My paintings follow Classical methods taught over a hundred years ago, now out of vogue. I like the idea of being an artist out of time, somehow transported to this century like a modern-day Rip Van Winkle. Though at first glance my work seems very traditional, my influences are anything but. Even my most figurative paintings will have something of the bizarre or grotesque.
