Diana Bailey
Artist Statement:
There is an element of reality in my work: an individual, a landscape or a natural organism. But I am always finding more to illuminate, an insight into the life of the subject, an emotional connection or memory to illustrate, which tends to push me towards abstraction. I do not describe my work as belonging to one category, material, subject matter, or style. I started late in life and have too much to explore! At this time I have no fixed landing place and enjoy my freedom to express the world around me how I wish.
Artist Bio:
I have lived in Boston since I moved here from England in 1974. I graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1975 and worked in architectural firms in Cambridge and Boston before forming my own business in 1988. I retired in 2018.
I never learnt to draft on a computer! So, I have imagined 3D spaces and structures, drawn them, and experienced their transformation into reality many times.
It was not until 2007 that I began a more personal artistic exploration as an artist, first with oil paint but moving on to other media as life required it. I have been fortunate to have had wonderful teachers and fellow students at the Newton Art Center and to live in a community full of creative possibilities.
