Evan Rosenberg
Artist Statement:
My work has allowed me to embody meditation as art by using my art practice as a physical mantra. The work I do is grounded in repetition and meditation. When I acquire the silk, I separate the large hank of silk into hundreds of smaller bundles of about 200 strands each. After hand-dying the bundles, I weave the four-foot strands individually into a shadowbox-like frame. As I create,  I am driven deeply into self-reflection and meditation.  I use the work to disconnect from my thoughts and impulses and guide me into a flow state. These pieces also act as a tool for the viewer to explore concepts that demand introspection, such as acceptance and impermanence.  Even though the knots have been perfected to hold forever, the delicate silk exposes a fear that it could all fall apart.  My hope is that the viewer can use this work to find liberation from fear and an acceptance of what is and what is to come.
